Gather Together

BY: MEGAN GILMORE

We are about five weeks into stay at home orders. How are you doing? Pause and really think about answering that question. Take a breath and assess in your heart and mind how you are truly doing.

How has life settled into a new normal for you since the COVID-19 changed our world? Do you feel a little overwhelmed and unsure about the future? I know I have had a million and five emotions and thoughts during this time.

It is ok that life may still feel chaotic and unsure. Some have quickly adjusted and created routines and schedules to get them through this season. Others are taking it one day at a time because that is all they can do. Wherever you find yourself, it's ok. We don’t have to be anywhere but where God has us.

When life drastically changes we have to take a pause to catch our breath. People are resilient through this process. Yes, it has been challenging. However, I am seeing people rise up together to get through this season. Positive changes are happening. I believe our world will look very different when we are able to interact without social distancing.

However, I do have a worry during this time for others...isolation. It is easy to isolate during this time. Yes, we are supposed to keep our physical distance from people. This does not mean we need to emotionally or spiritually distance ourselves. When we isolate emotionally and spiritually the enemy will use this to his advantage. It leads to negativity, lies, and depression to be your thinking and way of living.

In Matthew 18:19-20 it says, “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Gather even in spirit or virtually. Call on His name in agreement and watch God work! If you are feeling isolated or struggling emotionally right now reach out to at least one other person. Come together in prayer. Watch God move in your life. Just because we cannot physically be together does not mean we can’t be in agreement through prayer.

Pray for revelation. Pray for healing. Pray for freedom. Pray for God’s presence.

Don’t allow the enemy a way in during this time of stay at home orders. Reach out to those who you trust. Pull together in new ways to connect. Maybe that is through video chat and prayer once a week. Perhaps you set a specific time each day to come together in agreement. This can look like setting an alarm for the same time and going to the Lord with the requests. Allow God to open creative ways to connect, to come together in agreement. He is ready to move in your life and here on earth. We can choose to participate in it or allow the enemy to isolate us.

Who can you ask to come together in agreement with you in prayer? How will you connect to community with others? It doesn’t have to be a large crowd - He will show up when He is called upon.

Take a minute and write down some names you can reach out to and connect. Then pray and ask God what can y’all be coming together in agreement to the Lord about. Watch Him move, draw you closer, build your faith, and strengthen the relationships of those coming together.
